It was so good to see Wendy & Todd & their 3 kids. When they moved from Phoenix to Colorado Kailey was just a tiny girl, and Jack was maybe 8 months old. We felt right at home there from the start, and had such a good time hanging out with them like in the old days. Wendy made DELICIOUS aeble skeevers for breakfast one morning, and we had a BBQ the last night we were there too. Food and fun at Wendy's as usual!!!
We went up to Estes Park up in Rocky Mountain National Park and saw more elk than I've ever seen in my life. They were EVERYWHERE! We saw quite a few males cracking their antlers and showin' off for the lady elk. We walked around the little old town section of Estes Park and did some fun shopping. We stopped at a restaurant called McGraff's on our way home, where Jack, who NEVER sleeps except in his bed, stayed asleep on Paul's shoulder almost through the entire dinner. It was close to 9:00 when we got there I think. It was awsome food and it was nice to not have to cook or clean it up! It was fun getting to chat and laugh with Wendy & Todd while the little kids just colored at the other end of the table. They get along so well.
Another day we went up to a little park up a canyon close to their house. There's a huge river running through it and it was just GORGEOUS. The kids loved it. They loved ALL of it. There was a cool little place we stopped called "The Dam Store" and they claim it's the "Best Dam Store" there is. I must say, it was. They had the best stuff for souvenniers there.
The rest of the time, we just chilled out at Wendy's house and took it easy while Wendy & her awesome friend Annette worked their booties off to finish the quilt for my mom. It was nice just spending time there and letting the kids just run around out back playing their fun made-up games and play around in the basement. They caught a LOT of bugs (big spiders, little spiders (eww!!) a wasp and a bunch of ladybugs) which was a huge highlight of the trip. We had a great time at their house.
On Friday night we brought Wendy with us back down to Colorado Springs. We all stayed at Mike & Laura's house that night to shave off 2 hours from the drive home Saturday. We did the drive home again all in one day, and though Jack was a little crankier than the drive TO Colorado, we all survived and had a great time. It was fun being with Wendy so much. I really miss her. :( OH, and we bought some fireworks in some little town in New Mexico and smuggled them (oooh, we're such CRIMINALS!) back into Arizona. We're going to have FUN next July 4th!
So, that was our trip. We'll definately go back soon. It was so fun to spend time with Mike & Laura & Cami & Hayley & Audrey, I love those girls so much -- it was very sad to leave them. I could eat those girls for dessert every day! And it was so comforting hanging out with Wendy & Todd just like we used to when they lived 1/2 a mile away from us. It sure does make us miss them even more than we did already. I miss you guys a ton!!! Can't wait to see you at Thanksgiving. We loved the trip and can't wait to do it again.
